The Municipality of Maragondon joins the whole nation in commemorating the sesquicentennial birth anniversary of Gat Andres C. Bonifacio on November 30, 2013 at Bonifacio Historical Shrine and Eco-Tourism Park in Mt. Nagpatong Pinagsanhan B, Maragondon, Cavite.
Commissioner Rene Escalante of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines graced the momentous ocassion as Guest of Honor and Guest Speaker. With the theme "Bonifacio @ 150: Honor and Heroism", Commissioner Escalante stressed on the idea that it is just but, fitting and necessary to honor the greatness and valor of the founder of the Katipunan who had given his own life in pursuit of Philippine independence.
Dr. Victoria Pamienta (Schools Division Superintendent) and Dr. Manuela Tolentino (Assistant Schools Division Superintendent) from the DepEd sector, Prof. Denise A. Abril (PUP-Maragondon Campus Director), Mr. Rody Narvaez (Manager, Banco Maragondon), Worshipful Master Virgilio Cuajanco Jr. (Mt. Mainam Lodge # 49 F. & A.M.), Commander Iluminada Magante (Veterans Federation of the Philippines Maragondon Chapter), GM Manny Angeles (Maragondon Water District), ABC President Eduardo Diño (Liga ng mga Barangay), Vice Mayor Ireneo C. Angeles (Sanguniang Bayan), Mayor Rey A. Rillo (Office of the Mayor), and Commissioner Rene Escalante (National Historical Commission of the Philippines) participated during the wreath laying ceremony. The Office of the President also sent flowers in honoring the heroism of Gat Andres C. Bonifacio.
The event was attended by the teachers and principals from Maragondon District Elementary Schools, Bucal National High School, Cavite National Science High School, Maragondon National High School, Pulo ni Sara National High School, Naic I and Naic II District Elementary Schools, Naic Coastal National High School, Ternate District Elementary Schools, Ternate West National High School and Colegio de San Fransisco Gen. Trias Cavite. Employees from the Local Government Unit of Laguna also joined the celebration.
Winners on Essay Writing Competition and TakBonifacio Fun Run were awarded at the latter part of the program. Selected students from PUP-Maragondon Campus staged a presentation showing the tragedy of Bonifacio's death during the revolution. They also gave a folk dance number that lightened the ocassion. A boodle fight was served after the program to cater all the attendees.
On his message, Mayor Rey A. Rillo focused on the significant role that Bonifacio took part in Philippine revolution. He even called for an "internal revolution", a revolution that should start within us. He also opened the idea that the revolution in tourism for Maragondon is on its way now. A town rich in heritage and history will soon be the most desired destination of local and foreign tourists.
